Live Review: Dom Dolla is back with with filthy club hit 'Take It'

3 August 2018 | 10:24 am | Holly O'Neill

Australian producer DOM DOLLA has been swept up in touring mania recently. Still halfway through his mammoth US tour and addition to the Listen Out lineup, he's just announced he'll be taking his dark take on deep and tech house on an Australian tour! While dates are still to come as Dom is currently conquering the US right now, hot on the heels of this announcement, he's just released 'Take It', a dark, evocative tech house banger that's bound to make you cut at least one shape.

Snappy percussion and deep wubs of bass set the tone for the whole track, as vocal chops pan and a menacing melody resonates over the soundscape. The lead vocal, recorded in the soundbooth of a duvet through iPhone earbuds while on tour, channels the addictive monotone of DAFT PUNK's 'Technologic', delivering the bitey lyrics with a twisted resonance. "At the time I had planned on replacing my recording with a cleaner take when I got home to Australia, but was never able to recreate something I liked as much, so it stayed! It's been slaying it for me ever since," said Dom Dolla of his vocals.

The four-to-the-floor beat locks in those body vibrating hits of bass and fills of percussion, mixed with the rhythm of the lyrics it creates an all encompassing depth and groove that commands you to "shake it". With so many club #1's under his belt, by now Dom Dolla has the formula down to create a track that has all the signature tech house elements with that addictive club flavour.
