Live Review: AUSTEN delivers her best work yet with 'Too High To Cry'

8 June 2018 | 1:31 pm | Emma Jones

We've all been there: you're having a really shit time, but you just don't wanna deal with it yet. A quick fix? Sure. Really unhealthy as well? Definitely. This unhealthy habit we've all experienced is what Brisbane rising star AUSTEN is taking aim at with her latest single, 'Too High To Cry'.

Instead of offering up some alternatives for dealing with your shit, AUSTEN embraces the complex nature of humans and emotions, and opts for acknowledging that it can sometimes be fun to revel in the freefalling of forgetting your feelings for a while. Over an explosive track, her voice absolutely soars, making an impact from the very start. Taking influence from her inspirations like CHVRCHES and ELLIE GOULDINGAUSTEN sounds like a true star on this single, and it's an incredibly exciting development to hear from her.

We've had our eyes on her since the early days, and with each and every release, AUSTEN levels up again and again. Serving as an absolute anthem, 'Too High To Cry' hits hard in the best ways possible. Coupling AUSTEN's voice over stomping drums and huge synth lines, this pop hit is without a doubt her very best work so far, and with a string of shows coming up over the next few weeks, we've got our fingers crossed this means there's plenty more where this one came from!
