Live Review: Vanessa Elisha's new one is as smooth as 'Butter'

When VANESSA ELISHA speaks, you'd be doing yourself an injustice not to listen. Her completely rejuvenating approach to electronic, R&B and pop music has been blessing our ears for a few years now, but never has she been as immediately as impactful and striking as she is on the LOXE-produced 'Butter.'

The attitude that Vanessa Elisha splashes throughout the entirety of 'Butter' is palpable, and her vocal delivery is incredibly emotive. Each word she sings has been peppered with assertion, sass and sex appeal, while still remaining honest and true to herself. The passion that absolutely beams from her voice throughout the pre-chorus, not to mention that surprising jab of a whistle tone note, is a sonic receipt for just how powerful she is.

LOXE's production matches Vanessa Elisha's power note for note. His winding and grinding beat complements the mood of sexual assertion that Elisha is echoing throughout the song. There's elements of what helps make artists like Kelela and Tove Lo great present throughout the track, which is their undeniable ability to seduce a listener with a stunning vocal delivery over virtually any beat.

Vanessa Elisha's star only continues to rise with 'Butter,' which is a track that evokes sexuality, coolness and irresistible swagger from the very beginning. Much like the namesake staple, it's smooth, it's sweet and it's oh so addictive. The way Elisha has used her voice and embedded it in strength and creativity, coupled with the way LOXE matched that with his wickedly endearing production, is all the proof you need that one slice is never going to be enough.
