Live Review: Cosmo's Midnight's 'Lowkey' is about to be on everyone's radar

31 May 2018 | 10:32 am | Jackson Langford

'Lowkey' might be about keeping things off other people's radar, but Cosmo's Midnight, Buddy and Jay Prince have made sure the song itself is anything but.

Rappers have been finding their way into the electronic scene, and vice-versa, for a while now, and it's given us some absolutely iconic moments. Azealia Banks' '212', A$AP Rocky's 'Wild For The Night' and everything producers like Kaytranada and Mura Masa touch are just a few clear examples of how these two seemingly disparate worlds were meant for each other. But, it looks like Sydney duo COSMO'S MIDNIGHT are turning attention to Australia by giving perhaps one of the best electronic rap fusions of the year in 'Lowkey'.

Hitting up Compton rapper BUDDY and London rapper JAY PRINCE for an ultimate AUS/USA/UK trifecta, Cosmo's Midnight have left no moment unmilked. Those bubbling synths radiate for the opening seconds, and help keep the trans-Atlantic rappers afloat. Like the title suggests, the production is actually quite low key and minimal but still holds a solid, colourful foundation for the song to flourish. Both Buddy and Jay Prince ride the waves in their respective verses with ease and finesse, and deliver the hook with sweltering sensuality.

'Lowkey' might be about keeping things off other people's radar, but Cosmo's Midnight, Buddy and Jay Prince have made sure that this electronic rap banger is going to be picked up by everyone. It's warm, it's sexy and the way everything melts together and seeps into your head means its one of the best Australian offerings we've had in 2018 so far.
