Live Review: Synead reaches unbelievable new heights in 'Zenith'

5 April 2018 | 9:55 am | Jackson Langford

It must be hard for Synead to see us all the way down here, as 'Zenith' is just another way she's managed to take her career to new heights.

It's such a glorious feeling stumbling across an up-and-coming artist that feels so realised in their craft. There's no hesitation, there's no reluctance and there's no fear present so, despite their youth in the industry, it sounds like they're certified veterans. It's that confidence and self-assuredness that is innate within SYNEAD that makes her such a superstar-in-the-making, and 'Zenith' is just another gorgeous moment she's given us.

Reuniting with CABO BLANCO and MATT FX after their monstrous collaboration on 'Tropicao', Synead's voice sounds richer than ever before. Taking a slightly mellower direction than what we're used to, but her voice still exudes a deep optimism and an irresistible sensuality that puts her up there with the pros. "Can we take it to the zenith? / Oh baby, I just wanna see itshe sings on the chorus, exploding with love and adoration at every note.

Of course, 'Zenith' is carried to its peak by its production as well. It's understated and restrained to let Synead's voice shine how it deserves to. That being said, the pulsating bass and wavy synths help lift her voice to soaring new heights. Their ability to not drown her voice with over-production, but not exactly produce a minimalist melody, is a tough balancing act that they've finessed perfectly.

It must be hard for Synead to see us all the way down here, as 'Zenith' is only another way she's managed to take her career to new heights. Her versatility is natural, as she rides the calm waves of the chorus and the electricity of the verses with ease. Combine that with Matt FX and Cabo Blanco's breezy production, and 'Zenith' is a beautifully mellow moment.
