Live Review: Matthew Young's 'Fix Me Up' is addictive and irresistible

26 April 2018 | 9:14 am | Jackson Langford

Matthew Young's 'Fix Me Up' is a crunchy, slow burning, pop jam that only tastes sweeter with every listen.

From the opening, quirky beats of 'Fix Me Up', MATTHEW YOUNG has already worked his way into your bloodstream. When his signature raspy vocals emerge, he's already smacked you straight in the heart. He's proven himself to have a knack for that in his music so far, but never has his songwriting seemed as fully realised as it does here, and we're left desperate for another shot of it.

'Fix Me Up' is a bit of a slow burner that heavily relies on percussive intensity as well as THAT voice. Because the song is anchored in its beat, each layer of the song gets a chance to shine bright. Matthew Young's voice is rich, soulful and has a depth that makes the song impossible to pause. The keys beam into your ears and feel like a warm and comforting hug. It's in the middle-8, however, where your pulse beats faster. Young's distorted vocals over a crunchy guitar-driven melody seals the deal - you'll be having this on loop for far longer than you thought.

Matthew Young's 'Fix Me Up' is a crunchy, slow burning pop jam that only tastes sweeter with every listen. The way the eclectic beat melts with the radiant synths are truly addicting, and his silky voice keeps the buzz going. He sings "Baby, you're my drug"but after this offering from Young, he just might be ours as well.
