Live Review: PREMIERE: L. Flora prove they're ones to watch with new single, 'What's My Name?'

Life can get really hard sometimes, and more often than not, we forget to do one fundamental thing to get us through the hard times: believe in ourselves. Sometimes, it takes someone else to remind us that we can do it, that we should believe in ourselves, and that's all it takes to bring you back out the other side. In the case of Brisbane band, L. FLORA's new single, 'What's My Name?', they remind us to breathe, to let it all good and most importantly to believe in yourself. Now how nice is that?

Formed from various other bands around their city of Brisbane, L. Flora came together because of a mutual love of neo-soul and RnB, and have capitalised on their influences including LITTLE DRAGON and HIATUS KAIYOTE, and have spent the better part of the past year bunkered down in the studio writing and creating. Resisting the urge to play shows until the new project was fully formed and their material was complete, they're now ready to show everyone what they're sitting on.

Following their debut single, 'Strangers', which came from a place of deep anger and mulled over past experiences with sexual harassment, their latest single is like them stepping into the light. Gone are the growls from the lead singer, Millie Khalu, and the hazy, angry guitars. Instead, they've replaced them with cool, smooth melodies and luscious, rich neo-soul production. Clearly highlighting how diverse this band's output is going to be, 'What's My Name?' is a flipped script that hears the band firstly back themselves, as well as extending a hand to their community to let them know everything is going to be okay after all.

Featuring rapped verses and an uplifting hook, 'What's My Name?' is the warm hug you need after listening to 'Strangers'. It adds an exciting piece to the puzzle that is forming in front of our eyes of who L. Flora are, and with a record coming out in June, it won't be long at all until we get a few more pieces added in. Very exciting times ahead.
