Live Review: Jantoje packs a punch with 'Come My Way'

Central Coast electronic producer Jantoje has dropped 'Come My Way' - a pounding futurebass cut with that tells an emotional story.

Hailing from the Central Coast of NSW, JANTOJE (formerly JAKE EDWARDS) is all about "live samples with the taste of analogue chords, nostalgic progressions and thumping basslines." His latest cut 'Come My Way' is just that and a whole lot more - a pounding futurebass track that packs an emotional wallop.

Jantoje's last release, a remix of Touch Sensitive's track 'Lay Down' was what really put him on the map as a producer. Turning the original house-y vibe - replete with piano hooks and half step hats - into a futurebass monster, his skills in production finesse were firmly on display. 'Come My Way' turns this up to eleven, with a remarkable emotional impact amongst the thumping drops and twinkling synths.

The track progresses at a tumultuous pace, beginning with delicately warbled vocals and warm synths, before a buildup of claps and snares lead the way to the kind of drop you can feel in your gut. The mix explodes here but is never overwhelming; every element, from the synths to the layers of processed vocals, is exactly where it needs to be, and is never overshadowed by the heavy low-end.

Mixing goodness aside, it's pretty remarkable how Jantoje has managed to create something with emotional impact while still retaining the characteristics of a futurebass track. The titular vocal sample is soulful and piercing through the layers of synth leads - the melody of which is simple yet packs an anxious punch. 'Come My Way' tells a story through it's production alone; to pull that off in the confines of a futurebass track - while also making that track absolutely slap - is the sign of a pretty talented producer.

'Come My Way' is out now via Stoney Roads Records.
