Live Review: Blaq Carrie drops striking video for 'Sendereka' ft Kwasi

Brisbane artist Blaq Carrie has dropped a striking and aesthetic-heavy video for 'Sendereka' ft Kwasi, directed by past collaborator Grace Julia.

Zimbabwe born, Brisbane based artist BLAQ CARRIE has dropped a slick new video for her single 'Sendereka' featuring KwasiShot on location in Redcliffe, Queensland, the video was directed by Grace Julia, who also directed Carrie's video for 'Lemme Ride'.

Co-produced by Lewis Cancut, 'Sendereka' is Blaq Carrie's first cut since the aforementioned 'Lemme Ride' over a year ago. It's a minimal yet highly polished bop that leaves plenty of room for the talent of Carrie and Kwasi to shine through.

The video for 'Sendereka' oozes aesthetic, from the stylised typography of the opening titles to the warm colour scheme of the slow-mo visuals. A mix of close-ups and wide angles shows the meeting of two groups and the tension that follows, depicted with some striking and refined choreography that is expertly framed against a glowing ocean. Intercut are shots of Blaq Carrie walking along a beach, rapping on a boardwalk or keenly watching her group dance with a group of basketball players.

Grace Julia's aim was to capture "a beachy LA vibe, whilst still being uniquely Australian." Contrasting shots of a sun-scorched basket-ball court with languid shots of the iconic Redcliffe beach, the video achieves a delightful balance between the two aesthetics. It's tough to combine the two different vibes between Queensland and LA , but the video does it seamlessly, all the while treating us to some gorgeous cinematography and striking choreography. Here's hoping the collaborations between Blaq Carrie and Grace Julia keep on coming, because the output of the two so far has been fantastic.
