Live Review: Nicole Millar returns with the 80s-inspired 'Gimme A Break'

Side-stepping her usual dark and mysterious beats and opting for vintage 80s vibes, Nicole Millar unveils another new side to herself in 'Gimme A Break'

Future pop queen of Australia, NICOLE MILLAR, has shared another total bop titled 'Gimme A Break'. This is the first we've heard from her since her hit single last year in 'Blindfolded', and it unveils yet another side to the artist we've not seen before.

Teaming up with Dan Farber for production on this one, 'Gimme A Break' is a shimmery, easy going single that sees Millar side-step her home of dark, rich beats in favour of an upbeat pop flavour with a jangly chorus that you'll be humming for days to come. Having previously worked together for Millar's breakthrough single, 'Tremble', Farber offers up vintage 80s synths and crisp drum machines to give it a nostalgic feel.

Noting the change in style, Millar said of the single, “I've never really written anything like this song, which makes me so excited to show everyone...It's basically a girl power anthem telling some dude how it is. It’s based off a story back in my teens of a guy that would message me from the moment I woke up into the night, constantly leaving me no room to breathe. And let's be real, girls love the guys that ignore us!”

From a chance encounter with an image on Tumblr which inspired Millar to note down the song's title to a day in the studio with Farber and Ingrid Andress in LA, 'Gimme A Break' is an exciting development in the constantly evolving journey of Nicole Millar. Having toured with the likes of TROYE SIVAN and recently LAUV as well as supporting the one and only SZA in between her many jaunts around the world on writing trips, her ambition and relentless hard work continues to pay off here, and with hints there's plenty more to come, we've got our eyes peeled for a whole lot more!
