Shift's Bassia Dinnen gives us insight into their upcoming party with Bassment

21 February 2018 | 3:23 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Sydney, Sydney, Sydney. There's a real treat coming your way thanks to a huge collab with Sydney partygoers SHIFT and their sibling company BASSMENT over in New Zealand.

With both collectives aiming to bring a culture of creatives together and express their connection through music, they've put their heads together and are bringing a hugely diverse lineup to Club 77 in Sydney.

Going down on Saturday, March 17, the two collectives have put together a huge night featuring ANH, aywy, DAWS, Haan-808, KATANA, Mowgli May, SHIFT DJ's (Bucknite B2B BUSY), sturling., sysyi & t1r.

There'll also be exclusive Bassment x Shift apparel and merchandise available amongst art on display by some of their favourite locals, so it's more than just a sonic affair.

Ahead of the event, we flicked a couple of questions over to Shift's Bassia Dinnen AKA BUSY to get an idea of what she's been up to and how Shift's relationship with Bassment came to fruition.

After creating Frequencies and running that for a couple of months, we haven’t seen you throw parties for a while. What was it that motivated you to create this event?

After planning Strxnger collective's 1st birthday last year i took a little break to re-centre and re-focus, a couple months later i came out with the launch event of SHIFT with my friends Tom Bruce and James Allo, the company is our combinative brain child. I knew i wanted to keep throwing parties, but at that moment running Frequencies as a one woman show was a lot to handle with full-time work, and so the three of us teamed up to create a brand we all love. We wanted to bring this one back in Nov/Dec but then i ended up hopping around America on holiday for a month instead..

Was teaming up with Bassment an organic move for you? What brought this relationship about?

The music community is truly international, I met Rui (Katana) from Bassment when he was here for the a TAKU x GSHOCK event late last year, just around when i got back from the states. I was aware of the Bassment brand and we have mutual friends in the music community due to my previous work in music management/events etc, so it felt quite organic to inquire about teaming up for an international family affair.

What can we expect from this collaboration?

Exclusive merch and exclusive stickers to slap. Live art. Plenty more to come in the future too, maybe another edition down the track on a different playing field ;)

The lineup is incredibly diverse in every aspect of the word. Is this something that you like to keep in mind when booking?

I really believe in booking people on their merits/work/skillset and not for the sake of diversity, that being said when i step back and look at the lineup we've built as a big collaborative team I'm pleased to see it honestly reflects some of the best talent i've seen rising in the industry across Aust and NZ. There are so many more people we wanted to book but the lineup is pretty stacked as it is, so we'll just have to follow up soon.

Who are you most excited to see?

Just really damn excited to see everyone to be honest, it's not often we get to fly 8 artists from around Australia and New Zealand in for one big night of tunes and boogies :')
