Artists to Watch in 2018: Willaris. K

From playing at Purple Sneakers’ 11th birthday to being titled the ‘next big thing’ by BBCR1 DJ Pete TongWILLARIS. K has had an enormous 2017. Teetering between dance and techno, Willaris. K has developed his own signature sound, one that will carry him into 2018 and all around the world…but you don’t need Pete Tong or us to tell you that.

After releasing his single ‘Alchemy’, the northern NSW artist found himself on festival lineups all across NSW, including the legendary SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS. By the time he released another two songs, ‘River Song’ and ‘Dour Nights’, as well as an accompanying video trilogy, he was already getting international radio play as well as playing festivals all around Australia and New Zealand. These last few months alone he played outstanding showcases at BIGSOUND in Brisbane, Strawberry Fields and Pitch Festival in Victoria, Subsonic and Output Festival in NSW and of course, our very own 11th Birthday Party, just to name a few. It was impossible not to catch one of his energetic sets this year.

The trilogy of ‘Alchemy’, ‘River Song’ and ‘Dour Nights’, along with the accompanying 12-minute short film deliver in a perfect package his moody concoction of dance and techno that soundtracks the drama in the film. His remix of Exhibitionist‘s debut single ‘Hands’ is unmistakably his, and it’s crazy to see that after just three songs and a remix, this young artist has created his own unique musical style and niche sound. Pete Tong has his eye on Willaris. K for this reason, in an interview he said, “He has already got something that is really hard to attain. If I listen to an hour of music that was kind of similar to his melodic techno, when his track came on, I would know it was his.”

With a year of singles, remixes, music festivals and international recognition, there is no doubt that Willaris. K is following in the footsteps of Flume and other Aussie electronic greats. My advice to you is to catch this bright star live before a certain UK DJ steals him from us…
