Live Review: STEVIE dances the night away in gorgeous 'Toughen Your Skin' video

STEVIE's latest release, 'Toughen Your Skin', is a sparkly '80s jam with a big heart, exploring a strong female friendship.

STEVIE is the electronic-pop project of Brisbane artist Phoebe Imhoff, L.A.-based producer and musician Miro Mackie and Brisbane producer Jordan De Pasquale. Their latest release, 'Toughen Your Skin', is a sparkly '80s jam with a big heart, exploring a strong friendship. Having released the song to critical acclaim last month, they're now back before the year ends with some accompanying visuals. The video is a complete joy to watch, as Imhoff and a friend cut shapes in a pink-hued daydream.

'Toughen Your Skin' explores a topic that is rarely highlighted by pop music: the importance of supporting your mates through the good times and the bad. As Imhoff explains, the track "chronicles having to watch your friends in rough patches of their lives whilst being an ode to friendship, and the importance of moral support during tough times, when people aren't making the best decisions for themselves."

The video opens on a retro living room, featuring Imhoff's powerful presence on screen. She drinks champagne and sings into the microphone like she is on the phone to her best friend in her bedroom, evoking scenes from a John Hughes movie. The highlight is definitely the coordinated dance moves, as the girls simultaneously pay homage to and affectionately make fun of the '80s drama.

This song is the follow-up to last year's debut, 'Decay', and, alongside the charismatic visuals, proves STEVIE is one to watch. 'Toughen Your Skin' is the perfect pop package, effortlessly blending retro vibes and contemporary sensibilities.
