Live Review: Iris Gold blossoms in 'All I Really Know' video

Self-proclaimed 'hippie hop' songstress Iris Gold unveils the inspirational visuals and empowering sentiment behind her latest single, 'All I Really Know'.

UK artist IRIS GOLD has unveiled the inspirational visuals and empowering message behind her most recent single, ‘All I Really Know’.

Iris travels within her own genre lane of what she calls ‘hippie hop’ – a colourful blend of old-school hip hop, soul, and the philosophy of 1960s/70s flower power. Iris’ ‘hippie hop’ label almost glosses over the fact that her work is quietly pulling off quite an elegant trick – it’s retrospective pop that manages to rarely feel dated or unoriginal, it’s sophisticated and tasteful but never insubstantial. This remains the case on ‘All I Really Know’, further building on Iris’ already-glowing track record.

On the empowering sentiment behind the song, Iris elaborated that: “When you have been dealing with adversity throughout your life, it will either kill you, or make you blossom into a positive person, and I decided very early on in life that I would always be positive, energetic and a go-getter. ‘All I Really Know’ is my Rocky Balbao/Apollo Creed track. It’s a song about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and trying again, after failing, no matter how many attempts it takes”.

The video takes this statement and literally brings it to life, showing Iris running through her native Copenhagen, training with her own boxing coach a la Rocky, and performing in the creative hub where her band rehearses. Then, the end reveals her name spelled out in big letters outside a concert hall, and a look of quiet relief and accomplishment breaks out across her face.

If ‘All I Really Know’ is anything to go by, Iris Gold feels ready to take on the world by herself now – and the video only reaffirms that.
