Live Review: Janeva gets uplifting and soulful in 'Humble Beginnings'

‘Humble Beginnings’ is JANEVA’s new and uplifting single about backing yourself and persisting through the difficult times. As Janeva herself states, it’s about “not forgetting how far you’ve come and why you started. We all struggle at different times to maintain perspective on our own lives. Sometimes we just need to remember to give ourselves a break and a little bit of credit.” If Janeva’s smooth tones can’t convince you, then ZENSOFLY’s also there to drive the message home. “Life can stop but we can’t stop living...just go get it, can’t be timid,” she raps. 'Humble Beginnings' is the feel-good pick me up we didn't know we needed.

Janeva’s voice is a contemporary update on 90s R&B. Her voice is commanding and sounds exquisite. Some may draw comparisons to NAO or Aaliyah, which Zensofly doubles down on in her own lyrics, singing, “One in a million, like Aaliyah.” Janeva’s voice is surrounded by warm textures and groovy R&B sounds. It’s pleasant to listen to and succeeds in uplifting listeners, encouraging them onto the road of self-empowerment.
