Live Review: Go 'Crazy' for Cabu's new single featuring Love Mansuy

15 December 2017 | 3:30 pm | Max Lewis

Sydney producer Cabu has teamed up with Love Mansuy for 'Crazy', a subdued electro-rnb bop about the anxiety of falling in love.

On the eve of his impending EP release, Sydney producer CABU has dropped his latest single 'Crazy', a lovesick pairing of RnB and electro-pop featuring Love Mansuy on vocals.

Cabu's previous offering, 'Gold' featuring Akacia, was a woozy electronic cut replete with drops, sub-shattering bass and pitched-up vocals. 'Crazy' sees the producer dialling back the knobs and focusing on mood rather than energy. Starting with jazzy guitar chords and equally peppy keys amongst Love Mansuy's soft vocals, the track suddenly booms with a simple beat and some delicious side-chaining. Special mention should go to the sound of the hi-hats, which I can only describe as very, very sexy.

Contrary to previous Cabu releases, 'Crazy' never really erupts beyond these elements, instead focusing on a minimal yet refined sound. The laid-back sound gives plenty of room for Love Mansuy to weave his tale of falling in love early into a relationship, and the unrest that follows moving faster than you'd like. The jazzy keys and guitar evoke the inner calm of being with someone you like, while the peppy and prominent beat, alongside the lyrics, paint the moment of panic when you realise those feelings are more than you thought.

'Crazy' is our first taste of Cabu's upcoming EP Twenty Three, described as "an amalgamation of what my sound is today," by the Sydney producer. If this latest cut is anything to go by, we can expect many more chill and jazzy beats from Cabu very soon.
