Live Review: San Mei shimmers on Wongo's latest offering, 'Paradise'

3 November 2017 | 10:00 am | Camilla Patini

Wongo wasn't always making smooth house beats; before he was wooing crowds with his music, he was captivating them as an award-winning breakdancer, winning multiple titles in the UK and Australian Championships. After leaving the dancefloor for the DJ decks, Wongo caught the industry's attention through his remixes of tracks by Beyonce and Azealia Banks. The party-starting producer also remixed Spank RockWhat So NotA-TrakSweater Beats, and Sluggers. His original productions are just as hot: his track ‘Be 2 Be’ featuring LA vocalist Ducky was both a radio and club success, receiving support from triple j and all major dance radio across Australia. ‘Be 2 Be’ experienced significant success and was featured across a multitude of playlists, garnering over 800k collective online streams.

Fast forward to now, and he's got a new song for us to fall for all over again. ‘Paradise’ might be Wongo’s most sensual offering yet. Sexy and seductive, it draws listeners in with twinkling instrumentals and a muted bassline that is complemented by rising star and fellow Gold Coast local San Mei’s velvety voice. In her, Wongo finds an ideal collaborator: "When I first heard San Mei, I had a feeling we would be able to come up with something special," says Wongo. "It's a track that portrays our sunny hometown whilst staying true to the vibes of my production style," he says.

With its dreamy, summery feel, the track paints a picture of heady escapism and a sun-drenched love affair. 'Yeah, could this be like heaven, if I touch your skin?' San Mei sings seductively. Her vocals distil a dreamy, summery feel over the course of an undeniably sunny and catchy three minutes.
