Each week, we select one artist to feature as our Spotlight Artist. This week, we’ve chosen DEMON DAYS. For more Spotlight Artists, head here.

Perth’s young neo soul / jazz funk fusion DEMON DAYS have released their newest single effort, ‘Killer Bees’. This latest offering hones in on a cleaner sound, refining their collective roots to assimilate this incredibly tasty new tune.

The four-piece collective comes fresh out of the depths of whatever they put in the water out in the western side of our vast continent, garnering influences from a delicious mix bag of hip-hop, soul, funk and jazz and squashing them together to see what happens... We’ve got to say, the result is very, very juicy!

Demon Days have already cut their teeth in Perth’s live scene, ringing up an impressive chain of supports including Fortunes.Sex on Toast and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, with these remarkable young artists now capturing a stunning finesse and vibe that flexes maturity in their style. This slow-burning new jam, ‘Killer Bees’, exhibits a composed wisdom that ultimately cultivates a deeper understanding of their own musical identity, naturally progressing from some of the more raw elements in previous singles ‘Hurricanes of Light’, and ‘Lost In Translation’.

‘Killer Bees’ opens with an incredibly infectious synth lead which drops into a more jazz-fuelled verse, guided by suave vocals and an elegant arrangement of crisp percussion, funk-styled bass and chic embodied piano. The chorus sees a return to this outlandish synth motif, taking the song’s course back through cosmic terrains and other-worldly sonic landscapes to continuously transport the listener between diverging melodious domains.

While it’s still pretty early for Demons Days, these kiddos have certainly found a crop of distinctive tones to weave into their strong songwriting sensibilities. The band are heading off on tour, so you can catch them live in action at the below dates!
