Live Review: Elkkle shares a sombre taste of his debut EP with 'Frails'

Elkkle aka Callum Baker from Melbourne has dropped a second taste of his forthcoming debut EP with the sombre track 'Frails.'

Things are on the up for Melbourne electronic producer ELKKLE aka Callum Baker. He supported Golden Vessel on his national tour as well as being a feature artist on his track 'Shoulders' alongside fellow Brisbane up-and-comer Mallrat. Not one to let the hype die down, elkkle's just dropped a brand new teaser for his forthcoming debut EP in the form of new single, 'Frails'.

The track is the second single from his debut, behind the stunning 'Diderot' dropped earlier in the year. 'Frails' lives up to its predecessor in terms of tight yet ethereal production, but sees elkkle exploring more sombre and minimal territory. Heavy reverb surrounds a myriad of effected vocal samples while low-key synths patter throughout. Bass and percussion boom in during the chorus, almost squashing the vocals but maintaining compressed equilibrium, perfectly ducking the twinkling synths as they filter in and out.

Lyrically elkkle focuses on the tenuous relationship between mental and physical health, saying, "It describes feelings of fragility, hopelessness and isolation. Albeit with a desire to get better."  His vocals evoke this effortlessly, striking a balance of power with vulnerability, with the lyrics and instrumentals working in tandem to paint a picture of turmoil with a light at the end of the tunnel.
