Live Review: Love, inspiration and loss in TEES' new video for 'Let Beauty Be'

1 August 2017 | 7:38 am | Holly O'Neill

Lizzy Tillman and Sean Duarte, make up the laid back house/pop duo TEES. Best buds and the yin to each other's musical yang, the two have released their first single for the year and some accompanying visuals. 'Let Beauty Be' has the same 90's house inspired vibes you know them for but brings a more melancholy feel.

The track itself is loaded with nostalgic samples and synthesised bells as pan flutes flutter away over a understated hi hat heavy drum track. Tillman's warm vocals on top of the balearic beat are a soothing match made in heaven. Her delivery on this track is overflowing with emotion, as they bring the BPM down for this one and bring up the feels.

The duo have said the track is about allowing something or someone to make you happy but knowing it can't always be that way. "It’s about knowing when something has reached its end, when to cut free so that it can remain as something separate from you, and yet still be beautiful," TEES said. They tried to distill some of this abstract concept into their lush video for the track, directed by Jay Bird.

TEES deliver a dreamy performance to a few local seagulls down on the sand dunes in the clip. The duo bop away behind their synths getting sand in their sneakers while more straight laced versions of themselves wander the dunes for meaning. Even with the themes of loss, the track is hopeful, and the clip finishes with the duo finally reaching the ocean, the ultimate untameable beauty.

Hopefully the release of this new one signifies more new tunes on the way for this two piece, with more house pop that feels as warm as sand under your feet.
