Say hey to Living Under A Rock on Purple Sneakers Radio with Self Talk

4 August 2017 | 4:38 pm | Ted Dwyer

It's Living Under A Rock, a segment from the Purple Sneakers show on Sydney's FBi Radio. This week, it's all about Melbourne's Self Talk.

Say hello to Living Under A Rocka juicy segment from the Purple Sneakers radio show - Saturdays from 5pm on FBi Radio.

Here on the blog we cover all sorts of awesome music. Our main focus? Emerging club music. From house to techno, hip-hop to R'n'B, we do our best to showcase the best and brightest from Australia and overseas. That being said, there's always room for guitars at a quality party, and we love our fair share of rock, pop, and indie gems too. That's where Living Under A Rock comes in. It's the part of our radio show where we take a break from the dance tunes and take a look at who's killing it in the broad world of rock 'n' roll.

So far you've heard from Hatchie, Mesmeriser, and Cub Sport, but in this week's edition, it's all about Melbourne's Self Talk.

Self Talk were born when Stacey Cicivelli pulled together a bunch of mates playing in other bands to help her flesh out some new ideas. Now, alongside Amanda Norman, Michael Keirs, Frank Morda, and Brendan Aked, the band is on the cusp of releasing their second EP, Almost Everything - due out August 11th.

The EP's lead single, 'Bad Habits', has received plenty of love, and follow up single 'Bedside Dictionary' shows they don't know how to put a foot wrong. It's tightly packed, punchy pop rock built on Cicivelli's rock 'n' roll powerhouse of a voice and intricate, wonderfully expressive lyrics.

For Cicivelli, 'Bedside Dictionary' is "a bit of a reflection on those little relationships that don’t last long, don’t get very far, but still sting when they end. You end up missing something you never really had, which I think is a really weird feeling."

Almost Everything will be released by Lost Boy Records, including a very special, limited edition, cotton-candy pink vinyl. It'll feature the new record, as well as last year's EP, Seeing What I Want To See, on the B-side. Self Talk are bouncing around the country throughout August, so don't miss your chance to hear their new stuff live. They're a band that have built themselves an impressive reputation for energetic, exciting live shows over the last three years, so it's guaranteed to be a hell of a time.
