LA’s lo-fi wonderboy NOSAJ THING has gone and done a pretty quirky (read: creepy) remix with of BadBadNotGood’s ‘In Your Eyes feat. Charlotte Day Wilson’.

Nosaj Thing (aka Jason Chung) is in the midst of preparing for a pretty huge North America tour to kick off his much anticipated forthcoming album, Parallels. We shared the announcement just last month with the release of its lead single ‘All Points Back to U’ (featuring vocals our own home-grown Steve Spacek), so this cheeky remix comes as a bit of a surprise.

BADBADNOTGOOD are irrefutably killing it, with their most recent record IV essentially basted in a hoard of high-calibre features and collaborations in an expansion on the group's once humble demeanour. Nestled amongst the bigger names on the album is Canadian’s R&B / dark pop artist Charlotte Day Wilson, who featured on ‘In Your Eyes’ and released her debut CDW EP very soon after the BBNG collab.

Somehow, Nosaj Thing’s remix of ‘In Your Eyes’ is almost / if not even more striking that the song’s original version, morphing the track into a nostalgic and blissful dream-like affair. This rework further commends Chung’s production skills, exhibiting musical dexterity and poised restraint as he strips back Wilson’s original vocal and transports it into another dimension.

Swelling strings take place in both organic and eerily filtered forms, pairing with waves of oscillating bass lines and sinister minimalistic synth motifs to transfigure this once jazzy number into a newfound dystopian ballad. This new instrument arrangement is steered by electronic beats and constricted, haunting vocals from the usually soulful Charlotte Day Wilson.

Nosaj Thing’s remix of ‘In Your Eyes’ is both an unsettling and entirely captivating contrast to the song’s original nuance and vibe. We’re certainly curious as to what other stark remixes this prodigy might have up his sleeve in the future, but for now, we've got our sights set on Parallels as its set to hit our airwaves on Friday September 8.
