Jorja Smith unveils powerful new single, ‘On My Mind’

Soulful R&B prodigy, JORJA SMITH, has collaborated with UK producer, PREDITAH, on a powerful new single called ‘On My Mind’.

The song follows on from her stunning single, ‘Teenage Fantasy’, released earlier this year. The song was inspired by her first forays into love and relationships and was written while she was still at school. “Want it but we can’t have it/When we got it we don’t seem to want it,” she sings. It’s a heartfelt song about the trials and tribulations of young love. Playlisted on BBC Radio 1Extra and B-List-ed at BCC Radio 1, it unveiled a Jorja who is wise beyond her (only 20) years.

Her wisdom is evident also in ‘On My Mind’, which sounds like it might be about a romantic relationship gone sour. “I’m growing wise to your sugar-coated lies/Nothing sweet about my misery,” she sings here in her usual dusky, sultry tone but sets her voice to a track which is bouncier and more energetic than anything she has released previously. Sounding like the 2017 version of a Disclosure and Jessie Ware collab from yesteryear, Smith sounds perfectly at home on the bouncy electro beat courtesy of Preditah.

Jorja Smith will be opening up US arenas for Bruno Mars in September and word is out that there is an album in the works. This surely means we’ll be hearing a lot more from this talented young artist.
