Live Review: CLYPSO and her 'YOLO' visuals explode with colour

4 July 2017 | 3:40 pm | Jackson Langford

Sydney-based musician CLYPSO is very easily one of the most exciting and invigorating voices we've heard in electronic music in ages, and she's also way cooler than you. Very much for fans of SANTIGOLDCLYPSO has a refreshing take on what makes a listener tick in 2017. Her sound is vibrant, her vocals are nonchalant yet oh so catchy and her energy positively bleeds through every last note, beat and melody.

This has never been more so the case than with her latest (and only) offering 'YOLO.' It's a non-stop fun fest that flawlessly blends tribal and electronica in a way that sounds both historic and lightyears ahead. It's by all means an energetic banger that is going to make any listener stop what they're doing and dance. At the same time, CLYPSO has made this a track that doesn't try to be anything it's not - it's understated and melodically minimal, but still manages to absolutely explode with colour and brightness.

It would seem fitting then that the video for 'YOLO' would explode with colour, too. Filmed in various spots around the Sydney suburb of Marrickville, CLYPSO has scouted the most vibrant hues she could find to match her song and mission well and truly accomplished. Completely celebrating colour and rhythm, CLYPSO dances for her life in this hypercolour dream - think '212' music video injected with rainbows - and it perfectly follows the same mantra of the song. It's minimal and has a simplistic facade, but not once does it let up on the energy. The song's electrifying, the video's electrifying, and the spark CLYPSO has ignited in 2017 is sure to catch fire.
