Live Review: PREMIERE: Ali The Great hits hard with 'Foreign Objects'

28 July 2017 | 10:36 am | Emma Jones

Brisbane-via-Toronto beatmaker and rapper ALI THE GREAT has been a bit quiet lately, but now we know why. After releasing a solo EP featuring MIDAS.GOLD and GALLUS titled Earth back in 2015, and having been apart of one of Brisbane's most loved bands in ASTRO TRAVELLERS for their formative years, Ali The Great has been honing his craft for some time now, and after a brief retreat into the studio, he's now emerged with brand new music, and you can hear it first right now.

This one is for fans of Guilty Simpson or even Run The Jewels, with its off-kilter, swaggering beat and Ali's rapid fire rhymes. His flow is sharp and fierce over the big boom bap beat, while the track explodes in the hook. Featuring a guest verse from William Su'a Latu from Canaal, 'Foreign Objects' follows on from Ali's previous singles like 'Trophy,' which even received triple J play, while paving the way for harder hitting and more intense music to come.

Released as part of a double single, with the B-side, 'Flowers,' an exercise in a slower, more introverted area, Ali The Great is back with a vengeance here, and we can't wait to see where he goes next.
