Live Review: Tiber drops a serious funk bomb in his remix of Oliver Tank's 'Charlene'

29 June 2017 | 6:02 am | Jackson Langford

OLIVER TANK is by far one of Australia's most soulful voices. He wields lush electronica in the most hypnotic way, oozing listeners into a state of trance. His voice is consistently flooded with emotion and his use of space between sounds is a talent most others are yet to master. When Tank dropped his latest full length offering, OT, earlier this year, he displayed tremendous growth in his craft. The shining star of that record, however, was 'Charlene' - a sparse yet explosive synth-filled track.

Now, TIBER, Geelong native with an eye for bops, has blessed 'Charlene' with an energetic remix that is essentially a relentless onslaught of fun. Having elevated Oliver Tank's brooding vocals to a level previously untouched, Tiber has fashioned himself a remix that's both smooth and refreshing. While the original track was completely cloaked in Tank's powerful emotion and longing, Tiber has completely flipped that into a club-ready banger, armed with laser-fire synths and an overall glimmering production. It has given what was originally a beautifully raw track a glossy makeover, which is a testament to the layered approach Oliver Tank takes to songwriting.

Of the remix, Oliver Tank said, "I love what Tiber did with Charlene. Its always interesting to see how another artist re-imagines a song and I think he really took it somewhere special." While the remix is in a completely different space then it was when Tank originally wrote 'Charlene', Tiber has done a magnificent job in ensuring he paid respect to the original but at the same time made it all his own.
