Live Review: 'Focus' on Fortunes.' expressive new video

FORTUNES. have shared the official video for their track ‘Focus’, hot on the heels of their Undress EP release just a couple of weeks ago.

Originally from New Zealand, the alt-RnB duo comprised of Conor McCabe and Barnaby Matthews have been kicking around Melbourne for quite some time now and have two prior EP releases, Hoodie and Jacket.

Fortunes. have pulled back the layers in their latest EP, presenting us with the tightly produced single release ‘Focus’ to display their sonic development into suave and earthly vibes, earning them great public reception.

The highly alluring ‘Focus’ single has been paired with equally captivating visuals, courtesy of the the production team at Eye Sea Films.

Director Natalie Nalesnyik shares her vision behind the clip, stating:

"Rather than approach the song literally, in this video I wanted to explore the emotions of the song in a visually striking and abstract way that draws on the raw emotion heard in Conor's voice and the shifting dynamic between his hopes and reality."

This is not just another candid walk along the beach video; Nalesnyik imaginatively manipulates scenic images in amongst emotion evoking underwater scenes of a heavy, clothing laden Conor, while adeptly using in-and-out of focus shots in coupling with his vocals.
