Live Review: Delve into the unknown with Alxndr London's 'April'

1 May 2017 | 10:58 am | Ben Xerri

Alxndr London has released 'April', a culmination of the best parts of alternative, R&B, electronic, hip-hop and experimental electronic music.

Masked beneath a collection of wide-brimmed straw hats, ALXNDR LONDON singlehandedly redefines the sounds of modern R&B, manifesting them with the best parts of alternative, experimental, electronic and hip-hop music.

‘April’ is Alxndr’s first track for 2017 and serves as a reintroduction to his distinctive style after his 2016 debut A Long Time Ago EP. ‘April’ is beautifully minimalistic. Alxndr’s isolated vocals soar over a withdrawn piano chord line and crackling percussive hits as glistening synth plucks arpeggiate in conversation with his lyrics. The track builds and swells to tease the listener as it falls back down to its soft roots, only to be thrown into a grunge meets falsetto chorus.

‘April’ and Alxndr London takes sonic influences from the sensitive vocals of SAMPHA, the experimental electronic production of SBTRKT, the groove and swing of D’ANGELO and the tentative trip-hop soul of FKA TWIGS, transforming the cream of this musical elite into his own remarkable and revolutionary sound.
