Live Review: Lupa J's striking new video for ‘Put Me Back Together’ + national tour dates

The 19-year-old prodigy LUPA J has released her official video for ‘Put Me Back Together’, following on from release of the long awaited new single last month.

Bold, catchy and emotionally raw, ‘Put Me Back Together’ is melodically captivating and jam-packed with intensive production, presenting immersive layers of industrial soundscapes, dense percussive beats and delicate vocal loops.

Lupa J’s ambition was to bring the track honest substance, exploring significant and relatable themes: “This song is about finding freedom in madness & emotional expression, a big middle finger to your boyfriend who gets all awkward & frustrated every time you start crying.”

Inspiration for the song rose from the short story, The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, which explores a woman’s lunacy and the importance of her recognition, acceptance and evolution of the madness within.

The video for ‘Put Me Back Together’ opens with Lupa J looking intensely into the lens, displaying artwork on her right eye which could very well pay homage to the iconic paintings of Vincent Van Gogh and infamous make-up of Alex DeLarge in A Clockwork Orange. Both of these characters have been associated with madness, and the mere hint of its influence in this opening scene upholds the themes in the song.

Throughout the duration of the video, we see a variety of colourfully dressed individuals (including guest appearances from Marcus Whale, Gussy and Kimchi Princi) vivaciously dancing like no one is watching, embracing their inner selves without fear of showing who they really are. This visual accompaniment to ‘Put Me Back Together’ further evolves Lupa J’s lyrics and stunningly interweaves the song's central foundations.

Employing multitalented hands-on prowess, Lupa J directed and edited this clip herself with additional assistance from producer Kathy Drayton, choreographer Lexy Panetta and cinematographers Karl and Otto Schwerdtfeger.

Lupa J is set to support alternative hip-hop lass K.Flay on her upcoming national tour with performances in Brisbane, Melbourne Sydney and Perth. Tickets are available through various outlets via Chugg Entertainment, the tour dates are below!
