Live Review: Belle Noble is relying on 'Instinct' in her new banger

1 March 2017 | 8:39 am | Jackson Langford

Simply put, BELLE NOBLE is one to keep your eye on. She is tapping into a pop pocket that remains untouched in the Australian music scene, but is exploding everywhere else across the globe. Her powerful, unwavering voice - that doesn't let up, not even for a moment on her new track 'Instinct' - complements pop music so brilliantly that she simply can't be ignored. And, after one listen of 'Instinct', you'll understand that such pop perfection cannot be manufactured and it cannot be faked - Belle Noble is doing this from the heart.

'Instinct' is Australia's answer to British pop artist Anne-Marie. Anne-Marie's appeal lies in her self-assurance of her own musical abilities, and that can also be said for Belle Noble. The song opens with some Southern horn-inspired synths before fading away to make room for Noble's stunning almost-acapella first verse. Such bravery and confidence from a new artist is refreshing - she's not here to play games. The song builds into a pounding, synth-driven chorus that still remains pretty subtle. The best thing about 'Instinct' is that it isn't trying too hard - especially in today's pop world of EDM and all-around maximalism. Noble's instinct is clearly telling her to do what she feels, not what she sees around her.

The track was recorded with Jack Prest who has worked with the likes of Flume, The Preatures and Sampa The Great - so basically he knows what he's fucking doing. It also comes with a Tumblr-ready music video featuring a diverse group of dancers in stunning urban locations that takes on a whole new meaning once we learn from where 'Instinct' stemmed from. “...I took something that came from a bitter place and turned it into a message of empowerment and individualism, said Noble of the track, and both empowerment and individualism are crystal clear in both audio and visual.
