Live Review: Billie Eilish returns with an emotive new track 'Bellyache'

An instant rise to fame would be an understatement when it comes to Los Angeles singer/songwriter BILLIE EILISH. Her debut single ‘Ocean Eyes’, uploaded just a year ago for an upcoming dance recital, gained quick recognition from ears around the globe.

The track was praised for its whimsical and emotive structure, pouring soulful lyrics and gentle instruments into listeners' minds, hearts and souls. With no EP or tour announcement as of yet and still being able to hold 40 million streams under her belt, BILLIE EILISH is quickly becoming a household name within the alternative genre.

And now she’s back on our airwaves and fresher than ever with her latest release ‘Bellyache’. It shows us a slightly different side to this gifted vocalist as she delves into a world of floating vocals and unique sounds that spice up her musical direction.

‘Bellyache’ is a testament to her natural talent, somehow easing an acoustic guitar intro into an alt-electronic chorus that demonstrates her linear discipline. It's structured yet unexpected, using instrumentals as tools to paint a vivid picture of beauty. Her breathtaking vocals become rays of light, that escape through each strum and chord of guitar.

This masterpiece of a track was created with her brother FINNEAS O’CONNELL, drawing inspiration from the multiple personas and characteristics you can create during the process of writing music. “When I write, I try to become different characters. You can write a song about being in love with someone, but you don't have to be in love with anyone. You can write a song about killing someone, but you don't have to have killed people. 'Bellyache' is about doing one of those things but it's mostly about regret and guilt."

EILISH has most definitely captured these emotions and the art of character development, all while creating an exciting, fresh soundscape to go with it. This is one gal who we won’t be hearing the last of so check it out!
