Live Review: OKBADLANDS share delicate new single, 'PTY LTD'

Brisbane duo OKBADLANDS have just dropped a fantastic new single, 'PTY LTD'. It comes from their debut EP, due out at the end of March.

OKBADLANDS are back with a brand spanking new single and news of their debut EP. ‘PTY LTD’ is the newest cut from their upcoming release, which will also feature last year’s belter ‘Dust & Gold’, and will be released on March 31st. The EP is produced by Max Byrne (A.K.A. Golden Vessel), but is otherwise self-produced, recorded, and arranged by Kate Gurren and Sally Latter, the Brisbane girls who make up OKBADLANDS.

‘PTY LTD’ is unhurried and overflowing with soul. A slow, low-key two step beat and an ambling bass line allow for a laid back vibe that flows along under beautiful vocals and guitar licks packed with reverb. As the track builds, lush vocal harmonies and layering of different elements allow it to pick up the pace while somehow remaining delicate.

Gurren and Latter formed OKBADLANDS back in 2015, recording what had previously just been casual jam sessions. They quickly realised that this was an important way to express their creativity and to experiment with new instruments, textures, and recording techniques, and so with Gurren’s jazz student background and Latter’s skills as a bass player, it’s no surprise that we’ve ended up with absolute gems like ‘PTY LTD’.

OKBADLANDS will be supporting Bec Sandridge at The Foundry in Brisbane on the 10th of March, and dates for their own headline tour to coincide with the new EP are soon to be announced.
