Confidence Man’s latest tune ‘Bubblegum’ is playground perfection

Brisbane four-piece CONFIDENCE MAN had big shoes to fill after the success of their debut single ‘Boyfriend (Repeat)’, but you can consider those shoes well and truly filled. Their second single ever, ‘Bubblegum’ is absolutely kickin’, this song is a thrill to listen to.

Flirty and funky, this song will become your high-energy voltage whenever you need a little pick me up. Crashing percussion and a walking guitar jolts the listener into the song from the very beginning. The call and response of the male and female vocals perfectly places the song in a state of childlike whimsy.

The song’s breakdown will so fittingly transport you to your primary school playground. Hand claps and chants, on the surface this track is silly. But it is not to be underestimated. “I wish I had a boy that talks so sweet,” quickly becomes, “I wish I had someone to lie my body on.” It’s cheeky, but it is not for the faint-hearted.

Mixed by Patrick Wimberly of the band Chairlift, the musicians got cosy with each other’s sounds when Confidence Man supported Chairlift on their national tour at the end of last year. Gaining prominence all over the world, the band have just signed onto Heavenly Recordings, the legendary Indie label out of the United Kingdom.

Confidence Man will be bringing boyfriends and bubblegum to crowds all over Australia when they embark on their Hard Candy national tour, this March to May.
