Live Review: Sandro Dallarmi has dropped a monster mix celebrating 2016 in Aussie dance music

10 January 2017 | 5:04 pm | Jackson Langford

If anyone was going to create a sensational mixtape celebrating all the triumphs the Australian dance music world, it should damn well be SANDRO DALLARMI.

If anyone was going to create a sensational mixtape celebrating all the triumphs the Australian dance music world experienced in otherwise bleak year, it should damn well be SANDRO DALLARMI. Between being the mastermind behind FBi Click - one of the nation's finest dance music stations - and being a mainstay in the Sydney DJ scene, it would seem only fitting that he should be the one to compile arguably the most definitive Aussie dance mixtape of 2016.

Australian music had a monstrous 2016, especially for electronic music. Our golden child Flume made the year all his own, snagging an ARIA for Album of the Year as well as TWO GRAMMYS (!!!) for his stunning sophomore record Skin. Absolute queen Tkay Maidza completely dominated the scene with a take on both dance and hip-hop that is completely all her own and dropped one of the strongest Australian debuts all year. And, of course, The Avalanches made their grand return after 15 years to the music scene to the delight of pretty much everyone and their dog.

SANDRO DALLARMI's mixtape showcases all that and more. It bangs relentlessly for almost two hours but by the end you're still going to hit repeat. Besides the aforementioned legends, the megamix also features the likes of Nina Las Vegas, Moonbase Commander, Young Franco, Sampology, Hi Life, Roland Tings and so, so many more. You definitely need to get your 2017 off on the right foot by reminiscing on what was so fantastic, and give you hope that this year will be just as fruitful.
