Live Review: Drink up Martin King's 'Pepsi'

1 December 2016 | 10:21 am | Lloyd Crackett

Martin King has just signed to Good Manners and is back with his first release of 2016, 'Pepsi' - a slick house beat to get you going.

MARTIN KING is a finger in all pies kind of guy. He’s made a habit of always perching himself at the forefront of music across a range of acts, be that as a founding member of Oscar + Martin and the Harpoons or from his remixes of some of Australia’s electronic greats such as friendships, Dorsal Fins and Shouse. Now, Martin King, off the back of signing with Good Manners, is here with his first single of 2016, ‘Pepsi.’

‘Pepsi’ is a six-minute house track that shows off how tight Martin’s production has become. Making heavy use of pitched up vocals, an array of organic sounds entwined with a patterned and steady house beat, there is something clean and sophisticated about Martin’s latest track. It’s a matured beat; nothing seems frivolous as the track develops -it still maintains intrigue the entire time, never needing to delve into shock or gimmick. Martin’s latest release is surely a sign of great things to come in 2017.

In joining the Good Manners, Martin King joins the ranks of Kllo, Banoffee and Marcus Whale. Martin King is however, no stranger to his new label mates, having worked with Banoffee on their latest EP, Do I Make You Nervous? and having played shows with her before. Martin is a name that you should remember, will remember or be pissed off later as he takes 2017 by storm with a whole new load of material.
