Live Review: Manatee Commune gives Phebe Starr's 'Feel My Love' a shining remix

21 December 2016 | 9:27 am | Jackson Langford

PHEBE STARR, hailing from the Coffs Coast of NSWhas been making a bit of a well earned name for herself with her brilliant knack for crafting quirky, off-beat pop tunes that still slap as hard as anything. Now, Seattle-based producer MANATEE COMMUNE has given Starr's bumping tune 'Feel My Love' the double slap treatment with a bouncing rework that takes the song to soaring new heights.

The original song, to be fair, is impressive in its own right. It's a glimmering pop effort, with obvious influences of Lykke Li sprinkled in, and the colossal chorus pulsates through your very being. With the gliding synths coupled with to Starr's daintily powerful vocal work, 'Feel My Love' is an alternative pop anthem that is going to reinvigorate any listener. The way the chorus opens up with booming drums and a gorgeous harp melody, a la Florence and the Machine, is enough to get anyone going

Similarly, MANATEE COMMUNE's summery remix will also give you that energy boost to push on through your week no matter how glum. The producer still successfully showcases Starr's enigmatic vocal performance the way it was meant to be, but then pains the entire tune in bright hues of yellow, pink and blue. This is a top-down, full-speed type of remix that doesn't possess the same raw emotion as the original, but that is completely okay. Not everything has to be a serious exploration of human feeling, and this light rework will still make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
