Live Review: Travel to the 'Otherside' with Chris McClenney

Maryland based multi-instrumentalist and soul vocalist CHRIS MCCLENNEY has dropped ‘Otherside’, the first single off his debut solo EP Portrait In Two.

After the release of a variety of popular genre-spanning remixes over the past two years as well as a four-track EP recorded for the Soulection White Label series, Chris McClenney has distinguished himself as an innovative producer and musician. With a catalogue and musical style reminiscent of the finest aspects of Pomo, River Tiber, BADBADNOTGOOD and Kaytranada, Chris McClenney has fashioned ‘Otherside’ into a soulful and atmospheric track which sets an impressive precedent for the rest of Portrait In Two.

A simple shuffle beat introduces the track as reverb-heavy keys play around the presentation of the vocal part. Chris’ smooth flow and distinct vocality perfectly executes all the highs whilst gliding off the rapid spoken lines. The chorus presents the rounded bass underneath the syncopated descending vocal stabs of the hook. A ghostly guitar riffs at the back of the soundscape adding to the harmonic dissonance of the track.

‘Otherside’ provides a delicious taster for all of Chris McClenney’s future projects, especially this forthcoming EP.

Portrait In Two is expected to drop very early in 2017.
