Ariane's top five Maurice Fulton tracks

24 November 2016 | 4:15 pm | Emma Jones

Sydney DJ ARIANE is just one of the many acts we are bringing to what is shaping up to be an almighty event this weekend on the Central Coast of NSW as part of SOUNDS LIKE A HEAPS GAY PURPLE SNEAKERS TIME. A party put on in conjunction with Heaps Gay and Sounds Like A Nice Time and Proud Mary's in Erina, we have put together a line up overflowing with incredible Sydney talent, and we're so excited to bring Ariane along for the ride.

Reknowned for her selecting abilties and knack for filling up a dancefloor with her eclectic taste, Ariane has quickly become a staple in the Sydney dance scene. To get to know her a little better, Ariane sent us through her favourite Maurice Fulton tracks. Check out her words below, and catch her this Saturday alongside Indian SummerMEZKOMoonbase CommanderMatka and more at SOUNDS LIKE A HEAPS GAY PURPLE SNEAKERS TIME!

Maurice Fulton is my favourite DJ in the whole wide world. He plays everything from disco, acid and the harshest techno to afrobeat, new wave and The Doors. His own releases are just as eclectic, full of wild drums, ridiculous basslines and acid-y wig-outs, but no matter how weird things get they're always super melodic, listenable and fun — I reckon he's having the time of his life in the studio. If he had some sort of lifelong subscription service where you pay some outrageous amount to receive everything he ever releases for the rest of time, I would say "TAKE MY MONEY!"

Syclops 'Jump Bugs'

Last time I saw Maurice play he dropped this in the middle of what was an otherwise pretty disco-heavy set and everyone went nuts. I don't think anyone else in the world could have made this track.

Mim Suleiman 'Mingi'

Mim Suleiman's incredible voice is the main reason this track is so great — she's from Zanzibar, sings mostly in Swahili and has released two albums with Maurice, both on his ridiculously titled digital-only label BubbleTease Communications. Maurice's production takes it to the next level. This one was released as a 12" through Gerd Janson's Running Back and currently available for 50 bucks on Discogs, it'll make a great Christmas gift for your favourite DJ friend. (And if you like this, Maurice's back catalogue is full of women with amazing voices, including his remix of Alice Smith's 'Love Endeavour' and a bunch of releases with his wife Mutsumi, aka MU.)

BOOF 'Karo's At Work'

It's just beautiful, and also I love the album title / artwork.

DJ Nori 'Happy Sunday' (Maurice Fulton Remix)

His production also always sound incredible — this is a perfect example.

Syclops - 'Where's Jason K'

The reason I don't make music. How can I compete with this?
