Sydney based producer SCATTERBRAIN aka Joel Pearson explored new terrain with latest experimental electronic EP QUATRE BRAS

Sydney based producer SCATTERBRAIN aka JOEL PEARSON has released his new EP, Quatre Bras, and we are lucky enough to premiere it for you today. The EP marks an exciting, and seemingly new direction from his debut, Ghost Gum.

SCATTERBRAIN is no stranger to genre pushing electronica. His works have always incorporated complex layering, and breaks style percussion. Pearson's previous work has always been strongly grounded in experimental footwork and bass styles of electronica. Of late SCATTERBRAIN has been exploring new terrain, flirting with styles of techno and house. Pearson has been heavily entrenched in the dance community, starting in community radio in the Blue mountains, to now hosting experimental show Future Face on FBi radio. His interest in the diverse swells of the underground is clear in his musical direction. His bass-y atmospheric style carries through out Quatre Bras.

KIRI CANTLE lends her stunning soulful vocal, to the title track ‘Quatre Bras.’ A track based on a four four techno rhythm, and high hat, woven together by a sweet piano melody. The high hats and thumping bassline give the tune a distinct techno feel from the outset. The lingering emotion and sampling vibes on this tune is reminiscent of ambient electronica heavy weight FOUR TET.

The second tune on the EP ‘Gaff’ is instrumental and outer-worldly. A fair bit darker and atmospheric, ‘Gaff’ is an eerie soundscape that seemingly draws inspiration from darker more experimental styles of techno, like JOHN TALABOT.

Scatterbrain has developed an incredibly interesting and credible style of experimental electronica. A strong fusion of techno, ambient, grounded in unconventional percussive bass.

Quatre Bras is available now via Milk Thistle Records.
