Live Review: Lose yourself in Elkkle's new stunner 'Soft Erasure'

22 November 2016 | 5:23 pm | Jackson Langford

There's something that is so hauntingly beautiful about ELKKLE's latest offering 'Soft Erasure' that can't quite be pinpointed. Maybe it's the vast difference between how the song begins and how the song ends. Maybe it's the fact that Elkkle's absolutely stunning, slow-burning vocals carry the song effortlessly through its ups and downs. Maybe it's a combination of these things or none of these things at all. One thing is for sure, though: this soulful, dark pop record is a must-listen.

Obviously sonic influences like Seekae and Chet Faker Nick Murphy aside, Elkkle sounds like he's crafting a lane all his own with this new song. From start to finish, the track immerses you in his emotions and his incomparable voice ranges from delicate and vulnerable to soaring and powerful. It's an experimental tune that surprises you at every turn - you think it's going to go one way and it completely blindsides you. However, it doesn't seem like it's just done for shock value - it's a well-structured risk that paid off in the most beautiful way.

Speaking about the track, Elkkle said, "It’s definitely all heartbreak. But for me, to sum it up, it’s like getting drunk and bringing a bull into your own china shop. Then you wake up in the morning and all you can really do is say to yourself ‘don’t be mad at the bull, don’t be mad at yourself, just work out how to clean this up and move on’."
