Live Review: Donatachi’s remix cools things down on HI LIFE’s ‘When I Get To The Club’

Bounce, bounce, bounce. Donatachi has dropped a killer remix of fellow Sidechain's favourite HI LIFE's new one, 'When I Get To The Club.'

Fresh off the back of a gig at Heaps Gay’s 3rd Birthday Party, Sydney producer DONATACHI has dropped a killer remix of Sidechains fam HI LIFE’s banger, ‘When I Get To The Club’. Still retaining that euphoric, high-energy sound that Sidechains is known for, his ‘Del Mar Mix’ takes things down a notch, leaving behind the huge, glitchy trap drop of the original in favour of a more minimal breakdown, with thumping bass, staccato synths and quick vocal samples.

Released as part of a remix pack for the single, Donatachi’s take is less erratic than the original, which goes from an almost innocent, bubblegum pop sound into a filthy drop. Instead, his rework leans more towards the house side of things in that it retains a more consistent vibe, keeping things pulsing along.

There’s a strong pop sensibility to this rework, and influences from Danny L Harle, A.G Cook and SOPHIE are clear, on top of Donatachi’s love for Britney Spears and N*SYNC. There’s clean production work on display here in a very forward thinking sound that is just all-out fun.
