While the clip could be overlooked in its minimal and earnest style, that’s exactly why it is a perfect slice of Moon Holiday.

Last month, Moon Holiday, 2015 Triple J Unearthed Winner and Rainbow Chan tour mate, offered up "Out of Bounds," another signature Sunday afternoon banger. With production help from George Nicholas (Seekae) and Hamish Dixon (Cliques), "Out of Bounds" is a sparse yet sonically progressive soundscape reminding us that Moon Holiday exists to the left of conventional pop but should be the centre of attention.

Moon Holiday’s video for "Out of Bounds," directed and produced by Martha Zakrya, is tender in its simplicity. Facing front on a cast (Celia Bradshaw, Jasper Moy, Chloe Cork) who are exploring the bounds of gender. Through tight camerawork, skilled framing and gender-progressive styling, Moon Holiday’s video asks us to question the often-imagined lines of gender. Close shots of backs, hands and hips held tightly in frame remind us that gendering is always an assumption. As the clip progresses, we see that none of the cast could simply be placed within the traditional gender binary.

While the clip could be overlooked in its minimal and earnest style, that’s exactly why it is a perfect slice of Moon Holiday. There’s no rulebook for Alex Ward of Moon Holiday to follow because she’s torn it to shreds and is now making music and videos that ask us, "Why live within boundaries? Why stick to a structure that only serves up limitations? Why not explore?"

Watch Moon Holiday’s "Out of Bounds" below and catch her next at Paradise Festival in Melbourne (25-27 of November) alongside other great acts like Rainbow Chan, Friendships, GL and many more.
