Live Review: Mansionair return with the captivating 'Easier'

25 October 2016 | 3:48 pm | Emma Jones

It's been a long while between drinks for Mansionair, but now they're back in their own beautiful glory with new single 'Easier'

unnamed-2

Sydney boys MANSIONAIR are back on the map with a massive new tune, ‘Easier’, the first cut from their debut album due for release next year.

‘Easier’ is a huge step forward for the trio, a progression in their sound and in the maturity of their songwriting that you wouldn’t expect from an act that’s only released a handful of songs. Loosely based on a scene from Sofia Coppola’s Lost In Translation, vocalist Jack Froggatt explains that, “‘Easier’ is written for the moments you find yourself lying on your bed staring at the ceiling and wondering if things will change. It explores the endless piles of questions we can find ourselves asking those around us and the frustration of feeling like you’re going nowhere.

From the outset it’s a change, with imposing percussion and subtle, rhythmic piano. Froggatt’s soaring voice is powerful but not forced, and seems to ache with emotion, yet stays light and tender enough to retain the swirling, ethereal vibe of some of their earlier tracks. It’s not until the breakdown that Mansionair’s new direction takes shape, with an explosion of booming, slow-release synths that drive the song forward and add an element of gravity to the lyrics.

This one hits you best with your eyes closed.

Mansionair will be taking ‘Easier’ on the road with a host of other unreleased material in November and December, find the details here
