Live Review: Midas.Gold raises the bar with debut EP 'For What It's Worth'

25 October 2016 | 4:14 pm | Julia Insolia

One of Australia's best hip hop/rap artists, MIDAS.GOLD, has just released his debut EP For What It's Worth, and, in short, it's a game changer. The Brisbane-based MC has been making a huge dent in the hip-hop scene in Australia. He's has been fortunate enough to open for international acts such as Ghostface Killah, Danny Brown and The Underachievers, as well gearing up to hit the road with our own Tkay Maidza, and is now ready to show the world what he's got.

You may know Midas from tracks like 'Work it Out'  and '000000', both being absolute fire tracks that give you an insight into the world of Midas. For What It's Worth is somehow a step up from these tracks, as Midas fully perfects his sound. What I love most about this sound is how unique and different it is from other artists in Australia. For What It's Worth has now set the bar of international-quality standard for hip-hop and rap music in Australia. Midas.Gold blends the highest quality production with witty, ingenious lyrics, and tops it off with a flow and voice that can only be compared to a Travis Scott standard.

Midas.Gold (as well as others such as Remi, Briggs, Baro and more) is changing the scene in Australia, and I feel we are finally moving to the standard that is set overseas. On 'For What It's Worth', the MC says that "This EP not only represents a change in how I have started to value myself, but also reflects the change in my perspective thus far. This EP, to others, would seem like the beginning; but for me it really is, or would seem like, a last hope — one of many other abandoned/failed attempts to create "art". With this, I hope to show you in the most cliche way I can, that indeed, anything is possible, you can make it. Believe me — you can."

A big shout out has to go to the top notch production of the EP, created by James Angus, Gallus, Noah Harvey and Blair Burcher respectively. Take a listen to For What It's Worth below:
