Let JESS KENT indulge you with some of Sydney’s best places to go
After landing the winners title in Triple J Unearthed‘s competition in 2015 for her debut single, ‘Get Down’, electro-pop artist JESS KENT has been busy making waves around Australia.
Landing a spot on Field Day‘s line up earlier this year, as well as an appearance with Flume at Splendour, this girl has been on one insane, passionate ride. Take us back a month and Jess released another powerful jam, ‘The Sweet Spot’.
London born, Jess and her family moved to Adelaide at the age of 11. Now at 22, she’s her made her way on over to Sydney. Having settled in for a while now, we thought we’d ask her to give us a guide of her Hometown (Sydney)!
My flatmates and I just made the move into the city recently, and before that we were Bondi locals. So with that in mind I have handpicked a few of my favourite places to go + things to do in the city and in the east. Enjoy!
Tea: Rabbit Hole Organic Tea Bar, Chippendale
Sometimes when the hometown sickness kicks in, nothing can beat a great cup of tea.. And the only place to do that is at the Rabbit Hole Organic tea bar in Chippendale. They have tea lattes, tea on tap, loose leaf, just all the tea. And decent food too.
Beach: Milk Beach, Vaucluse
One of my favourite things about the Sydney coast is the all little coves and tiny beaches to discover. Milk Beach is complete with grassy area for picnics, trees for shade, and low key stunning views of boats drifting by on their way in and out of the harbor. If you don’t know your way, it can be tricky to find but well worth the mini-ramble past heritage-listed Strickland House to get down to the shore.
Coffee: Paramount Coffee Project, Surry Hills
Collaboration between Jin Ng of Paramount House, Mark Dundon of Seven Seeds and Russell Beard of Reuben Hills = the best coffee in Surry Hills.
Feed: Nalini’s, Bondi Junction
Tucked away on the corner of Newland Street, Nalini’s is the only place you need for an Ayurvedic feed. The holistic approach to eating is based on the belief that health and wellness depends on the balance between your mind, body, and spirit. PLUS, It’s 100% Gluten free and probiotic. (For the perfectly balanced meal I recommend the Thali box- get dosha too on the side). AND they have dairy and refined sugar free ice-cream.. you’re welcome.
Music shop: Sunburst, Coogee
The only place to get a guitar serviced, service is incred, and there’s a low key studio out the back too!
Drank: The Dolphin Hotel, Surry Hills
Maurice Terzini recently recruited Beni Single to repurpose the Dolphin and it is looking fresh af. Fun fact: Beni was the brains behind the visuals for The Sweet Spot, so you might notice some similarity. Recommend: pizza.
Jess has also been announced as a part of Laneway Festival 2017 and is also soon to be travelling around Australia in support of Coldplay this December!
