Live Review: Watch Rainbow Chan Elegantly Dance In Her Clip For ‘Pearled Into’

23 September 2016 | 10:58 am | Lauren Payne

Rainbow Chan has shared her new video for her latest single "Pearled Into" - it's beautiful and you can’t help but become mesmerised.

Rainbow Chan has to be one of Australia’s most talented artists. Very few musicians can blend together two strong cultures and present them in a modern setting, but Rainbow Chan seems to be able to do this with her eyes closed. She knows what will work best and that’s probably why her debut album, Spacings, is so refreshing.

One of the best tracks on the record is ‘Pearled Into’. Opening with airy vocals and a slow beat, the track is classic Rainbow, soft, intelligent and just magical. Harmonies dance around the beat and you feel so mellow when they merge together to create a piece of music that just feels like the most vibrant of spring days.

‘Pearled Into’ is stark, but it’s minimalist aesthetic just feels right. Rainbow Chan performs interpretative dance whilst wearing black to contrast the white room she’s in. The dance is swift and elegant, replicating the photography work of the clip's director, Ellie Graham.

In reference to the clip, Rainbow Chan explained, “We wanted to play around with the idea of space, using a minimal palette to create an atemporal and disorienting environment. The dance explores movement, rhythm and gestures that suggest strength in vulnerability”.

Graham has work with Rainbow Chan on a variety of projects and the video for ‘Pearled Into’ is probably their most provocatively astounding collaboration to date. It’s beautiful and you can’t help but become mesmerised.
