Live Review: Versatile new EP from SG Lewis is all ‘Yours’

1 September 2016 | 12:10 pm | Natalie Turner

SG Lewis has really come into his own with his latest EP, 'Yours', with guest vocals from Bishop Nehru and Gallant, it's a remarkable effort.

Rising electronic star, SG Lewis has just released his sophomore EP titled Yours, and its everything we hoped for.

The young British talent is creeping closer and closer towards the spotlight as his soothing, sensual sounds grow in depth and popularity. He was praised for his previous EP, Shivers, as he glided through the genre of chill electronica with extreme versatility and now he’s back with an even wider range of production skills.

Featuring four tracks, Yours is a blatant showcase of creativity and his ability to incorporate sounds that leave you feeling dazed and breathless. 'Holding Back' ft. Gallant is a track that does just that, with its repetitive percussion and tropical-like samples, it complemented Gallant’s soothing harmonies, doing anything but 'Holding Back'.

'Gone' ft Bishop Nehru was hands down my pick of the four tracks. Featuring the talented American rapper over the echoing beats created a side to SG Lewis we haven’t yet seen. The rattling instrumental samples that build throughout the song create vibrations of playful dips and weaves that perfectly match Nehru’s grimy vocals.

So you’re hooked so far, right? Well, somehow the talent doesn’t stop there as SG Lewis features his own vocals on the next track, ‘Meant To Be’. It's more of a light, funky beat in comparison to the other tracks and illustrates his creativity not only by using his own vocals but by switching up the tempo a bit.

The last track, titled ‘Yours’, is a beautiful way to tie the EP together as its slow building, airy synths leave you in a calming state. The vocals are warped just enough to complement the low bass build up in the chorus and makes it a tune you’ll be humming for hours.

The EP is a soothing rendition of SG Lewis’ unique and powerful producing abilities and showcases every aspect of the electronic genre. He truly is a versatile artist. SG Lewis everyone… remember the name.
