Live Review: Celebrating #TenYearsOfTaste with Purple Sneakers at King Street Crawl

6 September 2016 | 8:08 am | Emma Jones

Sunday, 4th September saw the annual KING STREET CRAWL once again descend on Newtown's main drag, but this time they had us along for the ride.

Sunday, 4th September saw the annual KING STREET CRAWL once again descend on Newtown's main drag, but this time they had some extra special guests - us! We're celebrating #tenyearsoftaste this year, and after the incredible night that was our Tenth Birthday party as part of VIVID earlier this year, we couldn't wait to throw another celebration and this one did not disappoint.

Kicking off with DJs in the beautiful, sunny Courtyard of Newtown Hotel, our lineup brimming with some of Sydney's absolute best electronic pioneers were present to keep the good vibe flowing. From newcomers LOVERS DISCO to up-and-comer MOWGLI MAY, the Courtyard was primmed our second stage to start up with the impeccable vocals and electro courtesy of ANNIE BASS. From here, LUEN had the venue thumping whilst SANDRO DALLARMI kept it hot in the Courtyard.

THE COMPLETELY BOYS were also in attendance, playing one of their famed "late night" house sets (which was perfectly suited for a Sunday afternoon as well), as was ADI TOOHEY closing the Courtyard and RIBONGIA with his rave-meets-jungle grooves. THE POSSÉ blew everyone away with their live, jazz infused jams, and MOON HOLIDAY made us remember who she is and what she's about debuting some new music we cannot wait to hear.

The end of the night saw ELIZABETH ROSE rock the Newtown Hotel with a mammoth DJ set as MARCUS WHALE's intelligent, emotive and insanely good solo project brought the house down (with two exceptional live drummers for added effect). After that, it was a solid set from our own PURPLE SNEAKERS DJs who closed the night, with a selection of the finest dance tunes over the past few years.

As an event that focuses Sydney live music, KING STREET CRAWL was once again a huge success for all involved, and we spent our day reeling at the sheer calibre of talent so readily available in Sydney. We at PURPLE SNEAKERS are #trustedfortaste, and the acts that performed yesterday blew us away with just how good they were. It's not so often we throw parties anymore, so when we do we like to go all out. Thank you to everyone who came through for a dance, thanks to KING STREET CRAWL and Newtown Hotel as well for helping us put on such a great day.

We still have a few more surprises up our sleeves, so please join our mailing list to be the first in on the action. In the meantime, keep finding out about new emerging club music with us through our website.
