Live Review: BUOY releases stunning sophomore EP, 'Break'

19 August 2016 | 9:19 am | Emma Jones

Out today on October Records, BUOY really comes into her own with her sophomore release - the superb, sublime EP titled 'Break'.

Sydney's rising artist BUOY was named as one of our artists to watch for this year, and now, with her second EP out today, we can safely say we were right. Comprised of four starkly different but entirely entrancing tracks, her EP (titled Break) sees the solo artist delve even further into her experimental side, to come out the other side as a fully formed star.

From the undertones of UK garage in 'Clouds & Rain' with her incredible voice on full display, the track blooms into an evolving, whirring kaleidoscope, it's clear we're in for something good. Then, shifting to the skittering and gentle 'Exit', BUOY really comes into her own with Break, as the track takes a turn for the grand and powerful.

Moving effortlessly from the soulful 'Arctic Ocean' with its cacophony of clinks and clangs as well as some buzzing synth for good measure, through to the stunning closer of 'Everything Must Change', you get the feeling like you're only scratching the surface with BUOY.

Flirting with experimentation, the playfulness of what she works with and just how much she has going on with each track, this almost serves as a showcase of what she's capable of. We're just hoping that a long player comes soon to see it even more.
