Our epic party becomes more epic; important updates for Purple Sneakers Tenth Birthday

16 June 2016 | 1:48 pm | Staff Writer

We have some very important updates surrounding this weekend's Purple Sneakers Tenth Birthday. Please read on for more information.

Ahead of our Ten Years Of Taste birthday celebrations this weekend - with an official event at Sydney's Lord Gladstone Hotel as part of this year's Vivid Sydney festival - we're issuing the following statement with some important updates for all partygoers.

A message from the Purple Sneakers team:

A tenth birthday only happens once, and for this Saturday’s Purple Sneakers Tenth Birthday at The Lord Gladstone we wanted to curate a free event which would remain as true to the experience of the original Purple Sneakers parties as we could possibly make it. Purple Sneakers was always about sharing new music with people in a relaxed environment. All things considered we reckon we are as close to it as you can possibly get, and keeping it a free event has been extra special.

It’s been five years since we’ve thrown a Purple Sneakers party in Sydney, so we really had no idea what to expect when we made the announcement. We have been pleasantly surprised, and to be honest we are genuinely overwhelmed by the positive response. Having initially requested RSVPs to be able to better serve patrons and manage attendance, at this point we have unfortunately received far too many RSVPs for it to efficiently manage crowdflow at the door. Just like the old days, there will be no guest list and no need to bring your Moshtix info or RSVP. We recommend arriving early to avoid disappointment, as entry will be on a 'first come, first served' basis.

We certainly didn’t imagine that the event would be this popular. This is obviously a nice problem to have, however we really do care about our patrons, and we want to try to avoid any disappointment as much as possible. And we especially want to avoid congestion and make sure that patrons who attend have a great time. So in order to try to circumvent this we have undertaken the following proactive measures…

- We have extended the hours to make it a 12 hour event, with artists playing from the earlier time of 3pm.

- We have programmed the event to spread out artists evenly across the entire day. We have scheduled artists that we genuinely believe are highlights earlier in the day, including World Champion, Dual Point, Indian Summer, Tashka, Purple Sneakers DJs, Sidechains etc.

- We have added more of our new and old artist friends to the event.

- New additions to the already colossal lineup include: Wordlife, FlexMami, Nes, Kato, Amrita, and Purple Sneakers DJs playing a throwback set early in the day.

- Doors will be open all day so guests are welcome to come as early as they like.

Our hope is that by starting earlier in the day, adding more quality artists to our lineup and moving some of our higher profile acts to earlier time slots will help spread the demand across the event.

We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your cooperation and ask that attendees arrive as early as possible on Saturday to guarantee themselves entry. We really appreciate your support and understanding with us as we try to accommodate as many patrons and friends as we possibly can. Ultimately we’re just extremely grateful and proud that people care so much about our small music community.

One thing is for sure, we now get the message that we should probably do this more often right? ;)
